I was crossing off the days — trying to quit, trying to keep a promise to myself.
Then I faltered. I painted over the marks in black, as if none of it ever happened.
Later, a spilt coffee brought them back through the darkness — ghosts I thought I’d buried.
The green cuts sharp and bright, a pulse that will not fade.
Countdown holds the tension between darkness and the will to rise.
